Ranting on a Dreamgirl

"Very nice?" Damn! I was blown away by the technical skill of this performance, as well as her ability to remain so highly technical throughout this performance. Had she gone through some Motown type training school to teach her how to pose for Essence? She probably made the cover with a per that tight! She's fly, and certainly sings, or probably blow any body (perhaps even my favorite Diva) out of the water with that voice and her power over it.

Amazingly, this performance was not even restrained, she gave her full to a full technically perfectly delivered performance: Whitney had arrived. And performing this pop tune to a massively slower tempo was the coup; though we have all heard the song and wanted to push the beat forward, Whitney, the Diva she is, gave us a stellar Dionne rendition, showing us that she was in charge- not by force, but by her skill and gracious delivery. My, how estranged she seems from the relaxed persona of the Whitney at the Soul Train awards or even Divas Live.

My mother said that they had to stop going to Roberta Flack concerts after her POPularity gained, i.e. post mainstreaming and mainstream success. Isn't that why Donny committed suicide? Isn't that the sensuality of Marvin's demons? Or why Sam was taken out by a whore? Hasn't this lead to Mariah's breakdown and radical comeback with her all-time determinate performance of Fly Like a Bird at the 2006 Grammy Awards? This must be why so many would just rather have a Block Party!
