"Summertime, and the livin' is easy."

I love how this song subverts the 'more money' factor! Here in India, everyone wants a rich daddy and good looking mother- all the best if she or either partner is fair-skinned. These factors alone, seeming, have the power to uphold the caste system.

So, sing yo' song! "Cause one a deese mornins you gonna rise up singing. Spread yo' little wings and take to the sky." Refusing to be mused by money wealth is an act of self-determination. It says that patriarchal norms that literally place a fiscal value on our lives shall not be the center of our norms- we have the right to choose.

Choosing to spread one's wings, even when there is the potential for danger, is always better that devaluing humanity to the usurpation of wealth, which, has always and continues to work to our own demise. Valuing the power of humanity over the power to dominate one’s life through wealth is an act of resistance. Though times are sweet, and the pockets of many are fat, lest us not forget that given the ways in which wealth recedes all element of public good this trend always leads to suffering. The moment we surrender our planet to the private hands of an elite few, we surrender our right to self-determination. We surrender the ability to determine that humanity do no harm- to ourselves, each other, or the planet. And that to do so denies our own humanity- humanity ceases to exist. We will have betrayed ourselves.
