Sexism. "What's love got to do with it?"

It is sexism that co-opted love and essentialzed it to sex. Patriarchy set clear bounds about what, when, where, who, how and why to make love. Well, listen up! I am taking it back. I am making love! I can make love with my words as well as my dance as well as my music. We are all powerful, so powerful that we can all, each one of us, make love. Some, "make luv and listen to the music," while others may "teach the world to sing in perfect harmony," all to make love- not war.

Parenting is also a site where love is made- cultivated. Certainly romantic partnerships are full of love making when free of domination. Love comes in all forms. Love's beauty, its utility to humanity is that love is boundless. Love stretches far further than we often dare to imagine. And yet we need love. Too many settle for sex.

For some sex feels better when love is shared- but having sex does not constitute making love. It can at best be an act of love, an expression. Yet, there are a myriad of ways of expressing love. Sex need not monopolize love.

Here's an interesting article on Salon.com on what love really does have to do with all of this.
